ABOUT

Created by twin sisters Élodie and Séverine Lombardo, choreographers and performers, the company les sœurs Schmutt bases its choreographic ethics on cross-disciplinary collaborative work. Since its creation in 2004, the company les sœurs Schmut has been challenging the discipline by offering both large-scale multidisciplinary projects and more intimate projects, questioning the stage space, performance processes, and political and social engagement. In 20 years, the company has created a dozen shows for the stage and just as many in situ contexts. The company also develops video projects in schools with the collaboration of director Robin Pineda Gould, whose film Caravane has won international awards. The artistic approach of the two artists is rooted in a theatricalization of dance, which they develop through an interrelational dynamic with other media. They encourage encounters between different disciplines, places, environments, artists, and cultures, with the aim of creating unique research contexts that question identity and human relationships. The spirit of collaboration and intercultural sharing are two dimensions that nourish and stimulate their creative work.
